Fuku Comparison: Starlights vs. Sol Senshi
Though from two different parts of the galaxy, Naoko Takeuchi
wanted to reflect that different sailor soldiers outfits were in some aspects the
same.
Here we hope to compare the Sailor Soldiers of the solar sytem, to the Sailor
Starlights of Kinmoku.
Tiara
Sol Senshi Tiara:
The tiara for the senshi of the Solar System has as a v-shape in gold
with a jewel reflecting their aura (here it is Sailor Mercury)
Sailor Starlights Tiara:
The tiara for the senshi of the Kinmoku senshi has as a tiara in gold
that goes across the forhead, rather than in a downward v-shape.
It has a raised circles leading to the tiara focal point,
an embossed star.
Earrings
Sol Senshi earrings:
The earrings of Sailor Moon is the closest to
the Starlights in design only, with Sailor Pluto in a close second.
They are large half moon shaped but with a dangle ending with
a smaller star.
Kinmoku Senshi earrings:
The earrings similar to the ones worn by Sailor Moon
earrings are, as mentioned above, the closest to that of the Starlights.
Unlike hers however they do not have a dangle, they are more like the ones
she wore in previous seasons. Like Sailor Moon however, they seem to cover
the majority of the lower ear.
Chocker
Sol Senshi Chocker:
Dropping down now, we will observe the choker.
For the Sol senshi, it is a simple piece of fabric that
goes around the neck and is accesorized by a gold star.
Kinmoku Senshi Chocker:
Here is where the senshi fukus begins to differentiate the most.
Instead of the long one cloth piece that is in the middle of the neck,
the Starlights chockers are made of metal and are each different in design.
According to Starlights Pops, Maker wears three studded dog collars
around her neck. and obiviously to reflect her aura, the choker of Maker
is violet. The chocker of Healer is light green, criss-crossed and is studded.
The choker of Fighter is a leather collar that covers most of the neck and has
a gold buckle in the center, with the aura of light blue.
Sailor Collar
Sol Senshi Collar:
Not much to comment about here, save to say that the rounded
padded shoulders from previous seasons are gone, replaced with the clear
flaring wing-like ones Moon had in SuperS, having two twin stripes on either
side of the v-shaped collar and square sailor flap.
Kinmoku Senshi Collar:
Like the Sol senshi collar, the Starlights collar is v-shaped
in the front and square in the back, the v-shape collar revealing some of the torso.
Like the ones of the Outer senshi in Super, the Starlights own does not have any stripes,
the collar itself is a clear distinction that they are sailor soldiers.
Unlike any of the Sol senshi, their sailor collar, like the rest of their
fuku is leather, rather than then the soft cotton-like material.
Sailor Torso
Sol Senshi torso:
The torso for the Sol senshi is a white leotard that has
a white belt that makes a wide v-shape. At the chest, there is a bow
with a center piece (a heart brooch in all seasons except super,
where it is turned into a star.)
*Note: the heart shaped brooch
also was the mirror aura color. The bow is the color is the aura
a certain person (here it is blue for Mercury.)
Kinmoku Senshi Torso:
Unlike the senshi, the torso is completely different,
with the exception of two points. First, let us examine
what it actually looks like. The torso is a black leather bodice
that makes a triangular point when it meets the collar.
The space where the collar ends and the middle of the bodice
leaves the exposed skin of the chest. At either side of the top of it,
you can see the bodice frame straps that seem to hold it up.
It disappears under the senshi collar and connecting at the back,
all the while reflecting senshi aura (blue for Fighter, violet for Maker,
and green for Healer.) and hugging the bottom to form the edge of the bodice.
At the center is a gold star, and directly under it is a half diamond
that is also gold where the starseed is suppose to be hidden. From the star,
there are a set of wings (though not a elaborate as one on Sailor Moon.)
At the back is where the frame all connect, (the straps from the top,
and frame at the bottom) all with two small stars, one on the left and right.
Both again have the attributes of a sailor soldier,
a chest piece that covers the torso in a fashion. Both also have a centerpiece,
also described above.
Gloves
Sol Senshi Gloves:
The gloves of the Sol senshi are white elbow length
gloves, (except for Sailor Moon in this season) with the soft round
trim of the senshi color.
Kinmoku Senshi Gloves:
The Starlights gloves are black leather that goes slighty above the elbow
to the apper arm making a point. Unlike the sol senshi, they have no trim,
but rather metal decorations instead. For Maker and Fighter,
hey are slightly above the gloves end. Fighter has a wide blue belt
with a gold buckle. the arm decoration for Maker is an three tiered
arm plate in purple.
Unlike the other two, the arm decoration for Healer
is three gold beadedgreen bracelets source: Starlights Pop)
just above the wrists.
Midsection
Sol Senshi Midsection:
Dropping down again, we see that the torso
for the Sol senshi is the white leotard that as mentioned,
with a wide v-shaped buldge that makes a belt like element.
Kinmoku Senshi Midsection:
The midsection of the Sailor Starlight fuku is again,
very different then their Sol senshi counterparts.
The torso, to the stomach
is bare, until reaching the stomach,
where a criscrossed with gold beads
and a star centerpiece like
the tiara and torso piece, allowing some
of the bellybutton to be seen.
Also it again reflects the color of the senshi.
The belt of the Starlights
fuku belt wraps around to the back,
unlike the Sol senshi.
Skirt
Sol Senshi skirt:
The skirt of the Sol senshi is a plaited miniskirt, in the color of her aura.
connected to the back are bows, also in the planetary color.
Kinmoku Senshi skirt:
The skirt of the Starlights fuku is not a skirt at all,
but a pair of black leather short shorts (hotpants according to Starlights Pop.
There is also a yellow triangular piece that covers the lower stomach.
Boots
Sol Senshi Boots:
The boots of the Sol senshi (that is of Mercury and Moon)
is a boot with the aura color of that senshi. It is knee high,
with a small high heel.
Kinmoku Senshi Boots:
The boots of the Starlights are leather high heels, but go slighty above
the knee to the calf. Their boots are pointed and high, like the ones worn by Sailor Uranus.
Conclusion:
The Starlights and Sol senshi have three basic elements
that make them the same. However, the fuku of the Starlights
is more function and form rather than aura and conformity,
Naoko Takeuchi hoped to make senshi more mature in manner and in style.
With the Starlights, this idea was achieved.
